Vehicle Sustainability
From the vehicles we build to the way we ship and service them, Subaru is committed to reducing our environmental footprint at every stage. Our growing lineup of EVs and hybrids, sustainable manufacturing practices, and eco-conscious retailer network all reflect our belief that loving the Earth means doing our part to protect it.
Innovating Our Fleet
Electric Vehicles
Subaru’s electric lineup is growing, and so is our commitment to a cleaner future. In late 2025, we unveiled a series of new and updated electric vehicles for model year 2026 — the 2026 Trailseeker and the 2026 Uncharted — alongside an upgraded 2026 Solterra.
Built on our next-generation e-Subaru Global Platform, all 2026 Subaru EVs are compatible with the North American Charging Standard (NACS), adding access to more than 25,000 charging locations nationwide. With available All-Wheel Drive, advanced EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, and a front-wheel drive option available on the Premium trim of Uncharted, there’s a Subaru EV for every kind of driver.

Understanding our Environmental Impact
Life Cycle Assessments
Every Subaru vehicle tells an environmental story long before it hits the road. Through Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)*, Subaru Corporation (SBR) takes a full-picture look at CO2 emissions across the entire vehicle life cycle, from production all the way through end-of-life. By factoring in decarbonization needs from the design stage, we’re able to build vehicles that are more resource-efficient, lower in emissions, and better aligned with our long-term environmental goals.
*LCA is an environmental impact assessment method that comprehensively evaluates environmental load at every stage of the life cycle of products and services from raw material procurement to production, use, disposal, and recycling. For SBR, assessments are for cars built for the Japanese market.
Stripping Away Single-Use Plastic
Modern clearcoat technology provides all the protection vehicles need during domestic shipping, which is why we eliminated protective body wrap from our supply chain entirely.

Eco-Friendly Retailers Leading the Way
Since 2011, Subaru retailers nationwide have opted in to the Eco-Friendly Retailer program — meeting rigorous standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, and environmental community involvement.
From solar panels and LED lighting to rainwater harvesting and water recycling, certified retailers are finding creative ways to reduce their footprint every day. They’re also collecting used cabin air filters and plastic film for recycling, helping Subaru make meaningful progress toward its strategic low-carbon goals.
Beyond their facilities, Eco-Friendly retailers live out the Love Promise in their communities through tree planting, river cleanups, trail building, and green education programs.

Digital Owner’s Manuals: A Smarter, More Inclusive Experience for Every Driver
Starting with the 2026 Outback, Subaru launched a new digital owner’s manual platform, replacing traditional printed guides with a more accessible, interactive experience.
The shift to digital significantly reduces printed pages per model and supports Subaru’s environmental goals. The transition also reflects Subaru’s commitment to inclusivity, with most content translated into Spanish and full ADA compliance ensuring an accessible experience for all abilities.
Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing
Recycled Materials
We work with suppliers across our network to reduce environmental impact at every level. We’re also encouraging suppliers to adopt environmentally friendly packaging like returnable containers and biodegradable materials, while vetting new partners who offer products made from post-consumer recycled and reusable materials.

10%
of the weight of cargo trays and rear seat back protectors are post-consumer recycled content

Making Remanufacturing Energy Efficient
In October, Subaru’s remanufacturing vendor ATC upgraded their facility by replacing all fluorescent lighting with energy-efficient LED lights.
Subaru Equity Shield
Our retailers offer Subaru Equity Shield, a vehicle protection program that goes beyond standard insurance coverage. Designed with sustainability in mind, all Equity Shield appearance protectants are water-based, non-toxic, PFAS-free, and VOC-free, minimizing environmental impact while keeping your vehicle protected.
Low-Emissions Transport
We remain committed to minimizing emissions throughout the transportation of our vehicles to distribution centers. When we utilize rail through our network of third-party logistics providers, we’re able to move vehicles nationwide while reducing CO₂ emissions.
